What to expect.

The Extra Yard for Teachers Summit is almost here...

We are so excited to have you attend the Extra Yard for Teachers Summit this Saturday, January 9th at Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Dallas! 

If you’re receiving this email it means you’re registered for the Summit. Your ticket is non-transferable and is good for your entry (one person) only.

We are sold out, so we are not able to accommodate walk-ups, guests, or any waitlist tickets at this time. All main session presentations will be posted online at http://www.extrayardsummit.com after the Summit.

1:30 p.m.   Registration Begins, Explore the “Choose-your-own-adventure” social spaces

1:50 p.m.   Theater Doors Open

2:00 p.m.   Session I

3:15 p.m.   Recharge Break

4:15 p.m.   Session II

5:30 p.m.   Event Conclusion & Happy Hour at SPARK!

Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, Montgomery Arts Theater, 2501 Flora St, Dallas, Texas. The school is located in the Dallas Arts District.

All attendees will need to check in upon arrival at Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. Once you arrive at the school, please make your way to the Montgomery Arts Theater Entrance which is located off of Jack Evans Street.

Be on the lookout for people with green lanyards. Those are aspiring teachers, and we’d love for you to greet them and share your experiences as a teacher with them!


Attire is casual.  It may get chilly in the theater so feel free to bring a cardigan or light jacket just in case!


Due to traffic, possible construction in the area and other events, please make sure that you allow yourself ample time to travel into the city and to navigate parking at the school or in and around the Dallas Arts District.

Free Parking (Limited):

Limited free parking is available in the Staff and Student Parking lots at the school.

Staff Parking Lot: Located off of Jack Evans Street across from the Winspear Opera House.

Student Parking Lot: Located underneath the overpass off of the Woodall Rodgers Freeway access road just east of Routh Street.

Additional Parking:

With the number of expected attendees, parking will be at a premium around the school; however, there are many parking and transportation options for the Dallas Arts District.

Don’t forget that 2016 Extra Yard for Teachers Summit Attendees and their families are invited to a free Happy Hour at SPARK!, a non-profit with the mission to ignite the spark of creativity inherent in all children. Will you start on time?
Yes! We’ll start the program promptly at 2:00 PM, so be sure to arrive in time to check in, get oriented and meet someone new. With very few exceptions, all seating is general admission. The theater doors open 10 minutes before each session for general admission.

Will there be food?
We’ll have snacks during the conversation break at 3:15 PM. Please eat lunch before you arrive, or plan to find something in the area prior to the start of the Summit. 

What should I wear?
No need to dress up just for us. It’s a Saturday! Be comfortable; it’s a long day.

What should I bring?
While you really don’t need to bring anything, you may chose to bring something to jot down some notes (but, there will be plenty of room for notes in your program guide). Please leave your errand lists at home! You might also want to bring a cardigan or warm layer since convention centers are notoriously cold!

I can’t imagine unplugging for the whole day...can I bring my laptop?
It’s ultimately up to you, but we do ask that you turn off your phones, computers, and anything else with an on/off switch while you are in the theatre. Those screens are really annoying to the people sitting behind you. If you would like to Tweet or blog from the conference, you are welcome to do so from the lobby or from the back of the theater.
